A bit about me
I have been proofreading since 2005 – back when scripts still sometimes came through on paper and I had to mark them up in pen with the traditional proofreading symbols! Nowadays, all of my work is onscreen.
Over the past fifteen years, I have worked on a very wide range of materials, from fiction and non-fiction books, manuals and pamphlets to commercial material such as web- and advertising copy through to academic papers (dissertation, theses, essays and articles) – which I now consider my specialty. I have worked with hundreds of students and academics, many of whom speak English as a second or third language. I am also experienced in working with dyslexic individuals.
Unlike many proofreaders, I don’t use software programs to speed up my work: there is no substitute for a responsive, context-aware human being reading your script! Also, it seems to me that such programs can vary in their quality and can actually introduce errors. I prefer to trust my own judgement, skill and knowledge and to personally do the work I am being paid to do.
Prior to proofreading, I was a practitioner of alternative medicine for many years. I have an ongoing interest in all things health-related and medical.
I live in Somerset with my partner and three badly behaved cats.
